His failure inspired him to do out-of-the-box community outreach (i.e. Ike would offer passersby a free sandwich plus a $5 bill just to accept it), which soon led to hour-long lines wrapping around the block out of his aspirational sandwich shop. Now 15 years later, the man behind the goateed cartoon logo has built over a 100-unit empire and expansive menu catering to every diet preference.
