Alexander, who was promoted in September 2022 to Chief Strategy and Supply Chain Officer, expanded his role even further in March 2023 to include Marketing, Real Estate, Business Development, and Franchising — in addition to his current responsibilities for Strategy, Innovation, Supply Chain, Corporate Services, and Food Safety & Quality Assurance.
“During his seven-year tenure at Whataburger, Alexander has displayed exceptional leadership and strategic thinking skills,” says Whataburger President and CEO Ed Nelson. “This is a well-deserved promotion. His expertise and experience will be valuable assets as we pursue excellence in our growth strategy.”
Alexander joined the Whataburger family in 2016, bringing his passion for food, agriculture, and the global farm-to-fork supply chain to his role as Vice President for Supply Chain Solutions. In that position, he was responsible for delivering the highest quality products and services to more than 9,600 restaurants, as well as making critical decisions and overseeing procurement and delivery of everything from food products and packaging to restaurant equipment and essential services.
Whataburger has become a nationally recognized brand growing to over 1,000 restaurants in 15 states with fan-favorite products on grocery shelves in 25 states. This is the most ambitious growth plan the brand has seen to date. That means innovations like the Whataburger Digital Kitchen, new menu items like the Chili Cheeseburger and the Banana Pudding Shake, even adding National Whataburger Day to the calendar. Recent media accolades for the brand include QSR Magazine’s Best Brands to Work For in 2023, and its annual 50 list, ranking Whataburger as the fourth-highest chain earning the most per restaurant in 2022. The brand has risen to #34 in the Franchise Times Top 400 this year.
Alexander has more than 25 years of food, agribusiness and restaurant experience, including leadership roles with Tyson Foods, AGCO Corp., and JBS Foods. He is a graduate of Harding University and an alumnus of the Harvard Business School.
